But first - a bit of a rant... and to help you all understand the situation... While trying to live in the bitter cold and stay somewhat fashionable, I have found it a bit challenging here in Fairbanks. And we are a larger area population of 85,000+! We don't have a department store - well, Sears... does that count? (NO!!!! It does not!) Our Dillards "comparable" department store closed a couple of years ago with nothing in its place. Uh - not even a Clinique counter! We - well, I for one, love shopping online and think that a trip to Kohl's is heaven. What is wrong with this picture!!! From daily lunch breaks milling around the L.A. Fashion Mart to working in a mall (do not wish that on my worst enemy!) and then living and shopping in those quaint town centers in Europe - to this - 8 years of this! (I do love it here though!) And this is not a remote location that one can only fly to! This is on the road system... Hello! Investors! Prime property is available! LOL
Anyway - I have this crochet bug and have been creating all of these interesting vests and scarves and hats this winter. Last week two co-workers mentioned that it was fun to see "what Candi was wearing today!" Then I remembered back to high school when my greatest joy was coming up with the coolest, funkiest oufits - not too hard growing up in farmer/cowboy country (please, take no offense my Huntley Project friends - fact is fact). I am pretty sure that the fun of seeing "what Candi was wearing" was met with giggles and eye rolls. In fact I remember one time someone (who shall remain nameless for now) told me my pants looked better hanging on the curtain rod as curtains! Can you imagine! Humph! And let's not even talk about the comments made regarding the coolest hammer pants ever! Oh dear - some of those fashion statements were probably trainwrecks... but now the train just keeps chugging on by... Warmth has become #1 priority and fleece lined tights are the best fashion accessory I own! I must say thank you to SKO:P in Scandanavia for inventing the SKOOP winter skirt! It is so cute and does help a fashionista be a bit more fashionable while wearing an ankle length down coat and big ol' Sorel boots while trudging through the snow up the hill to work in the dark at 40 below! (BTW... no endorsements here! Just a genuine THANK YOU!) Anyway - on with the blog! So, the girls thought that I should make a blog to catalog my 40 Below fashions and latest crochet madness. So here we go!
Today's fashionista scarf. A Dublin scarf. Crocheted this last week with a free pattern from Lionbrand yarn. Used a cream Caron worsted weight. Thank you Mr. Dermot Cole for taking my photo. :)
Well, that is all for today! Not sure how often these posts will occur - but will be sure to keep you updated as the 40 Below turns a bit warmer and the fashions become more "protect me from mosquito bites" related!
Sounds like you need to open a store/boutique - I am sure you are not the only one with the fashionista challenge.... You would do be great at it... :-) Patti P
